1. How do I turn on Wi-Fi calling on my phone?

Enabling Wi-Fi calling can be done on your smartphone. The directions are different for iPhones and Androids.


Here’s how you can set up Wi-Fi calling on your iPhone:

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi and connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. From the Home screen, select Settings.
  3. Select Phone.
  4. Select Wi-Fi Calling.
    • If you have an iPhone with an eSIM and more than one line, tap the line you’re making changes to.
  5. Tap the slider next to Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone to turn Wi-Fi calling on.
    • If you ever want to turn off Wi-Fi calling, follow all of the above steps, and then tap the slider off instead.
  6. A connection preference of a Wi-Fi or mobile network is not available on an iPhone. Instead, your iPhone will automatically choose the stronger network.


Here’s how you can set up Wi-Fi calling with your Android:

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi and connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Pull down the notification shade at the top of your phone, and long-press the Wi-Fi icon to see Wi-Fi settings.
  3. Select Wi-Fi Preferences.
  4. Select Advanced.
  5. Select Wi-Fi Calling and flip the switch to “On”.
    • If you ever want to turn off Wi-Fi calling, follow all of the above steps, and then flip the switch to “Off” instead.
  6. Here you can also select whether you want the phone to prefer Wi-Fi or mobile networks for calls in Calling Preference.

If you try to turn on Wi-Fi calling and you don’t find the above settings, then it may not be available on your phone. Please refer to your phone’s User Manual for further help.

3. Do I pay for Wi-Fi calling?

No, there are no extra fees to use Wi-Fi calling on your phone. Using Wi-Fi calling does not affect your cell phone service plan in any way.

4. What is Wi-Fi calling?

Wi-Fi calling lets you call or text using your Q Link phone number, but over an active Wi-Fi connection. This feature provides you with a connection, allowing you to make calls and texts in even more situations.

With Wi-Fi calling, you can:

  • Talk and text in areas where a signal is unavailable, or there may be gaps in coverage.
  • Talk and text from indoor locations where it may be hard for a strong signal to reach your phone.

Wi-Fi calling allows you to talk and text to any phone number within the U.S., Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands as you do regularly on the Q Link network.

You can turn Wi-Fi calling on or off in your phone’s settings. Most iPhones and Android smartphones support Wi-Fi calling. Click here to learn how to turn Wi-Fi calling on or off.

Here are some important things to note about Wi-Fi calling:

  • You can use Wi-Fi calling with most Wi-Fi internet connections.
  • For Wi-Fi calling to work, you must turn Wi-Fi calling on, you must register an E911 address, and you must be connected to a Wi-Fi internet network.
  • Wi-Fi calling may not be available in a few countries.

8. Will 5G replace 4G LTE?

No, 5G will not replace 4G LTE. The two coexist to help one another.  If you’re in a 5G-supported area and have a 5G-capable phone, you will automatically connect to the 5G network. If you happen to be in an area where 5G network is still under construction or not available, you’ll automatically have access to the 4G LTE high-speed network you’ve always used.

9. Is 5G accessible everywhere?

Q Link Wireless proudly offers service on America’s largest nationwide 4G LTE/5G network, however, 5G coverage is dependent on your current location as some areas have stronger 5G strength than others. 

10. How do I know if I’m using 5G?

If your phone is 5G-capable and you’re in an area with 5G coverage, a 5G icon will appear at the top-right corner of your phone screen. If you’re out of a 5G supported area, your phone will continue to run on Q Link’s high-speed 4G LTE network.

11. What is 5G?

5G stands for the 5th generation of technology. It offers greater bandwidth, leading to better, more expansive coverage, and greater reliability. With time, 5G will also enhance the speed at which data is transmitted. To access the nearest 5G network, you must have a 5G-capable smartphone and be in a 5G-supported area.

12. Do you offer HotSpots?

Well, that depends!

Hotspots (Wi-Fi Auto-connect) vs Hotspot (On a device)

Hotspots are access points where you can connect to FREE internet within our nationwide network. This is referred to as “Wi-Fi Offloading” or “Wi-Fi Auto-connect”, and can be turned on with the My Mobile Account app.

We presently have 10-million locations with FREE Wi-Fi available to our customers. If you have the App permissions enabled for My Mobile Account App, we’ll auto-connect you to the nearest available Wi-Fi spot, saving you data & money. Check the My Mobile Account app to find FREE internet hotspots near you! (We also have a convenient list of participating locations here.)

A Hotspot on a phone, however, is the ability to tether your other devices (laptops, phones, and tablets) to your phone’s data connection, allowing those devices to access the Internet. Q Link Wireless currently does not offer ‘Hotspot for devices’ with our plans, but check back soon, as we are constantly improving our network and options!

Security Concerns Related to Hotspots

You should never use a public hotspot to share your personal information with websites (such as credit card or banking information). Criminals can intercept the data and use it for their own personal gain. If you need to share personal information over a public wi-fi network, it is advisable to use a VPN.

13. How do I figure out how much data I need?

Q Link Wireless now offers additional monthly data at the lowest rates around! Data can be used for email, web browsing, videos, music, social media, downloads, and more.

14. How can I preserve my FREE Data and minutes every month?

Monitoring your data and minutes usage will help you get the most from your Q Link Wireless service!  Follow these recommendations below to save your Data and minutes for when you need them the most.

1. Preserve by using Wi-Fi

Connecting your Q Link phone to Wi-Fi is the best way you can preserve your FREE data and minutes. When your phone is connected to Wi-Fi, you can…

  • Make calls with app-to-app services like WhatsApp and Viber
  • Download movies & music to play and listen on your Q Link Wireless phone, without using up your data streaming them

2.    Save Data by Adjusting App Settings

Apps like Facebook and Instagram automatically use extra Data to load and play videos that come up in your news feeds. But you can change these settings so your apps only load what you want to see, instead of automatically loading every single video (Taking up your precious data for videos you may not even want to watch).


If you’re using Facebook, you can change your settings so the Facebook app won’t automatically play videos in your feed. Videos take up a lot more data! Here’s how to do that:

  1. Open the Facebook app on your phone and tap “Menu” in the lower right corner.
  2. Scroll to the very bottom, and tap “Settings & Privacy”.
  3. Select “Cellular Data Use” from the menu.
  4. From this menu, you can select to auto-play videos only if you’re connected to Wi-Fi, or you can choose “Never Auto-play Videos”.


You can also change your Instagram settings to use less Data.

  1. Click on the Menu icon in the upper right-hand corner of your personal profile.
  2. Tap the “Settings” section and then tap “Account.”
  3. Scroll down and tap “Cellular Data Use.”
  4. Flip the “Use Less Data” switch.
  5. Once, activated, Instagram won’t pre-load videos on your feed.

For other mobile apps you use often, check the settings sections. Many popular apps (like Netflix, Snapchat, YouTube, and others) include settings to help you reduce your Data usage.


3.    Save Data by Adjusting Phone Settings

The apps you have on your phone can be running in the background and use data, even when you aren’t actively using them. That means they’re using your Data up, when you aren’t even using the app!

Here’s how to fix that problem in just two easy steps:

Control How & When Apps Use Data

To stop an app from burning through data in the background on your Android phone, follow these 3 steps:

  1. Open up Settings and then tap “Data usage” If you don’t see “Data usage” you may need to tap “More”.
  2. Scroll down, and you’ll see a list of apps on your phone, arranged by how much data they’ve used.
  3. Tap on the app you want to prevent from using Data, and select “Restrict background data” Click “OK” on the pop-up.

The app will still use Data when it’s open and you’re using it, but by following these steps, you’ll make sure it doesn’t waste data you need for other tasks.

Disable Automatic Syncing and Updates

To make sure apps aren’t downloading huge updates while you’re away from home and using mobile Data, follow these easy steps:

  1. Open up the Google Play Store and tap “Play Store” in the upper left-hand corner to open the Google Play Store menu.
  2. Scroll down the menu and tap on “Settings”.
  3. Make sure that under “Auto-update apps”, it says “Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only”. If it doesn’t, tap that section to change the setting.

15. What is the Lifeline program?

The Federal Lifeline Assistance Program is a government benefit program. It helps low-income individuals and households receive basic telecommunication services for free or at a discounted rate. Lifeline was created in the 1980s by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) under the Reagan Administration. The program originally provided low-income households the ability to receive discounted or free landline phone service.

Later, in 2005, Lifeline was updated to also include wireless phone services. The program makes sure low-income households are not cut off from basic wireless services, something that everyone now depends on to live happy, safe, and productive lives.

17. Are my incoming calls free?

Both incoming and outgoing calls will count against your minutes. Incoming calls start counting when you press the button to accept the call. Outgoing calls begin when the call begins to ring. Be sure to take note of how many minutes you have remaining by visiting My Q Link and entering your email as your username and your zip code as your password unless previously changed.

20. Will I be able to roam?

Yes, your Q Link Wireless phone will clearly display a “Roam” or “RM” indicator on your screen when you are located in a roaming area. While roaming, you can continue to make phone calls from your Q Link Wireless phone at no additional charge, other than using your own minutes. However, availability and quality of coverage while roaming varies and isn’t guaranteed.

21. How do I make a 911 emergency call using my Q Link Wireless phone?

Q Link Wireless customers have free access to 911. Simply dial 911 on your key pad and press send.

However, if you attempt to call 911 in an area where there is no wireless coverage or signal, your call may not successfully go through. In this rare event, please dial 911 from your nearest landline phone.

According to public safety officials, you should be able to provide your current location information whenever making a 911 emergency phone call. In contrast to landline phones, a variety of factors (for example: your location, your device’s GPS capabilities, and the local emergency service providers’ equipment) can help 911 operators determine your phone number, location, and the location of your device.

Sometimes, emergency service providers may route your emergency call to a local state patrol dispatcher or another set location. GPS technology may also be used to help provide your location; this is called Enhanced 911 service, or E911. Occasionally, if you place your call indoors or your device cannot acquire an accurate satellite signal, E911 won’t provide the most accurate location information.

I’ts also important to note that some cell phones include a safety feature that locks the keypad after dialing 911. If this is the case, simply follow the emergency service providers’ voice prompts.

23. Can I get more than one Lifeline phone?

No, you may only sign up for and receive one account with FREE monthly service. The Federal Lifeline program only allows one free wireless or landline phone service plan per “household”. For instance, if you qualify for Lifeline assistance and receive your free phone service, but also want your significant other (that also lives with you) to apply, they will be denied. This is because you are both considered part of the same household.

Lifeline does, however, allow for groups that share an address due to circumstances. This means separate households that live at the same address ARE eligible, including residents of homeless shelters and nursing homes or residents with temporary addresses.

24. What does “one per household” mean?

According to the Federal Lifeline program, a household is defined as “any individual or group of individuals who live together at the same address and share income and expenses.”
This means that Q Link Wireless is limited to providing one Lifeline benefit per household.

Households may only receive Lifeline benefits from a single provider. This means if you receive service with another Lifeline provider, you must cancel that service first if you want service from Q Link Wireless.

26. Can I give away my Q Link Wireless phone to friends or family?

While you CAN let your friends or family borrow your phone, but you CANNOT let them have it. Q Link Wireless’ service is non-transferable, meaning it must be used by you and you alone. However, you can refer your friends or family to Q Link Wireless with our Refer–A–Friend program. Just ask them to sign up by going to https://qlinkwireless.com/signup/.

We’ll even reward you. For each qualified and approved friend you refer to Q Link Wireless, you’ll receive 100 free bonus minutes and 100 MB of data.
